HISTORY
The origins are common for all the Swiss cowherds and he/she goes back to approximately 2.000 years ago. As all the molosoides it descends of the Tibetan moloso that spread for all Europe accompanying to the Roman legions and that he/she gave place to the dog shepherd Swiss denominated dog of the cabins, the current cowherds' direct predecessorIt is the but well-known of the four races of Swiss Cowherds and as the name it indicates it he/she is native of the Canton of Berne, but properly de Dürrbach, near Riggisberg, in the region of Schwarzenburg, also known by Dürrbächler.
It is there where today it is used as protection dog and livestock conduction that he/she pastures in the mountains of Switzerland and also as shot dog, being good to push small shopping carts of transport of milk.
Their presentation in public, still as race non clasificada, fue in 1902, in the city of Berne. The first Standard serious published in 1907.
The great recovery work and selection of the Swiss Cowherd owes to Albert Heim. This Professor of Polytechnic School of Zurich was able to convince the peasants that raised in Dürrbächler that didn't reproduce animals with eliminatory defects and if they made it according to the Standard one.
In 1913 the Society Cinológica Switzerland recognized the race officially, with the name of Berner Sennenhund.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
This magnificent one tri-colored that can arrive to the 60 Kgs. of weight and 70 cm. high is of a fondness and friendship without you limit at the same time of a cheerful personality and of a fidelity inigualable, allied to an intelligence and learning capacity truly impresionantes.It is very bound to the owners that continue for all sides and if they cannot make it physically they make it with the look. It is a fabulous family dog that adores the children and it tolerates them some excesses.
But attention, the Cowherd from Berne is not an animal despersonalizado. As all the molosos they are not too submissive.
Always attentive and vigilant with their presence it is, in general, enough to move away intruders, and he/she didn't need to appeal to other arguments to defend to their owner or their territory of whose limits have a rigorous noción.
Their hair doesn't require big cares, alone a weekly brushing is enough to maintain it in good estado.
All this makes of the Cowherd from Berne, not alone the but beautiful but probably the best dog in the world...
